About VIP

VIP is the association of fruit and vegetable producers from Val Venosta in South Tyrol and was founded in 1990 as a producer organization.

Today VIP works for seven different cooperatives and specializes in representing the interests of its more than 1,600 producers. In addition to joint marketing, VIP also ensures compliance with common quality criteria and standards.

In the course of this, VIP conducts an average of around 400 audits per month during the peak audit season and acts as a certification body for the cooperative members.

Background

The cooperation between Intact and VIP dates back to 2003. At that time, as part of comprehensive digitization measures, VIP went in search of a new auditing and certification solution.

As part of their mission to “move away from paper,” they were keen to find software that mapped the entire audit trail and could be easily used by all employees. The Intact Platform (then ControlNet later Ecert) was already able to convince with its holistic approach during the first demo, which was to become the beginning of a long-term partnership.

Goals & Challenges

Although VIP’s digitization had progressed at a remarkable pace since the start of the collaboration with Intact, onsite audits continued to be a headache.

Due to a lack of alternatives, VIP’s auditors were still forced to use a pad and pencil for these audits. This allowed them to perform and document all relevant audit steps regardless of the location. This also made it possible to obtain signatures – which was essential, especially for the large number of GLOBALG.A.P. audits.

However, this could only be a makeshift solution with which one did not want to be satisfied. Pen and paper documentation did not meet the integrity or efficiency requirements of VIP and Intact. This meant that all data recorded in analog form had to be painstakingly digitized afterwards. With over 1,100 audits, this approach severely stretched the team’s capacities to the limit due to the necessary additional steps.

Solution

To ensure an end-to-end digitized audit trail and eliminate the tedious re-keying of data, VIP and Intact again worked intensively together to find a solution.

This was to ensure that all VIP audits could be carried out directly in the digital audit and certification solution. A possible use on different end devices and GLOBALG.A.P. compatibility were particularly important.

The requirements of VIP and other customers resulted in a new Intact product: Intact Mobile. This allows Intact Platform users to audit anytime, anywhere – both online and offline. In addition, the app offers its users numerous other benefits, such as the preparation of audits, the recording of findings and the automated creation of audit reports at the touch of a button.

VIP acted not only as one of the first Intact Mobile users, but also as an important supplier of ideas. Thanks to the continuous cooperation and constructive feedback, the app could be further developed. For example, a feature essential to VIP was developed that allows signatures to be obtained directly on site and is now available to all Intact Mobile users. This benefits not only the apple growers in South Tyrol’s Vinschgau region, but now the whole world.
