A Day in the Life of an Intact Intern
Internships at Intact
Intact selects interns from diverse backgrounds to work alongside our employees every year. Some interns return for multiple terms, gaining experience in several departments. We view internships as valuable opportunities for both interns and our company. Internships often lead to full-time employment, benefiting both parties.
This summer, Intact had the pleasure of welcoming a dynamic group of interns who brought fresh perspectives, energy, and enthusiasm to our team. Two of our interns, Sebastian and Oliver, dove headfirst into various tasks, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to several projects. Morning Stand-Up and Task Planning
Each day at Intact started with a team stand-up, where Oliver and Sebastian shared their progress, discussed any roadblocks, and received new assignments. This daily touchpoint helped them stay organized and introduced them to agile project management principles. From there, they would begin their work on data extraction and analysis, an essential part of their role. One of their key tasks involved pulling customer data from Excel and accurately mapping it to our internal system, which sharpened their attention to detail and enhanced their understanding of data integrity.
Cross-Team Collaboration and Learning
Mid-morning typically saw Oliver and Sebastian collaborating with other departments. Whether they were documenting SQL statements or building a JIRA dashboard for the OPS team, this phase of their day was about working across teams to improve processes. By engaging in these projects, they learned how to apply technical knowledge in a collaborative setting, improving both their technical and communication skills. These tasks also gave them deeper insights into how various teams within Intact function together.
Skill-Building and Afternoon Projects
After a shared lunch at a local restaurant with Intact lunch vouchers, they typically started the second half of the day fed and refreshed. In the afternoons, the focus shifted to more complex tasks that pushed their technical boundaries. On a typical day, they worked on writing and testing SQL procedures, developing PowerShell scripts, or troubleshooting code using Notepad++. One of their proudest achievements was programming an HTML website to showcase Intact’s top clients. This project, designed to be displayed on office screens, not only improved their coding skills but also contributed directly to Intact’s internal communications, leaving a lasting impact on the company.
